Babu Baga Busy Movie Review
'Babu Baga Busy' hits this hot summer on screen as a cool, mischievous breeze. Does the film live up to expectations? Read on to know...
Story:
Madhav (Avasarala Srinivas) is a self-confident sex addict. This means that he is one and always has been one, denying conventions.
He meets Radha (Mishti Chakraborty), a working, independent-minded Vizag, when he at least knows that he is about to face a rift of life-changing experiences (which will unfold in the second half). Which he likes and not after lust.
He could end the relationship since he was honest about his history of sexual matters, and he decided to play Mr. Dahi Rice in his presence.
Described non-linearly, the narration goes back to his childhood and adolescence, when Madhava lost his innocence, virginity and conscience for years.
The second half is about how certain events change the outlook of Madhav, who now yearns for a long-lasting relationship with Radha.
Analysis:
By and large, 'BBB' is a faithful remake of the 2015 Bollywood adult comedy 'Hunter'.
To be fair (or may be unfair), this is a coming-of-age rom-com if you remove those overt and covert references to things related to sex / lust / masturbation. But for the fact that Madhav is a 'loose' (by the way, what do you call the male version of an Apsara? For the last time, there are no words for male sexual addictions), 'BBB' is a love story? of its own.
And from here lies lies. How are viewers watching it? As an unconventional rom-com whose protagonist has not yet developed, or as an adult comedy (mainly) who is ignorant of an extra-marital affair here and an accidental creeper there?
'BBB', clearly, is neither here nor there. At least, prima facie.
Notably, Debuntante mimics the courtship strategy of Naveen Medaram Mister X (Bollywood), regardless of the kind of girl he flirts with. In the end, he never gets the one-night stand he is seeking.
Urban-rural landscapes copied from the original are out of place. The same is true with BGM, which is interpreted as if it is in the original, but is not at all natural.
Attempts to incorporate the songs into the narrative fade away as the technique overlaps, especially in the second half. Much can be achieved by imitating an alien idiom.
Since the male lead character 'Theda' (the Telugu equivalent of 'Hatke', we believe), at least the storytelling technique and props should have been more local. The lessons of Shankar's boys could have been used.
The climax was about to take the tempo to the next level through the acting of the lead pair, but Srinivas Avasarala's light-hearted performance and Mishti's over-refined personality outdid Zing. In the end, there is no climax, we mean, metaphorical intercourse!
The element of bromance is once again good on paper. However, the translation is lost. It is hard to believe that Priyadarshi can be that colorless. A good chance to exploit Avasarla's comic timing and thanks to the 'Pelli Chopulu' comedian were in vain, all under the pretext of giving a sensible adult comedy, perhaps.
Avasarala tries his hand at enacting a series of emotions. He brings Marx nearby. Mishti is good, Supriya Aisol is better as a love-loving housewife, so Mr. Mukhi is also in a cameo. Tejaswi Madiwada works with every shy girl whose passive sexual feelings are slowly becoming active.
Sunil Kashyap's music and Suresh Bhargava's cinematography pass through the muster.
Decision:
BBB 'has its own heart. But the statement mimics the blind. After a point, it starts to get affected.
